DAR AWARD Local woman honored for historical efforts MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 23, 2014 @ 11:33 am Posted Oct. 23, 2014 @ 11:33 am » Social News The Crater Lake Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution awarded a Historic Preservation Medal to Charleen Brown at the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society meeting on Oct. 21. This medal was established in 2002 to further the Daughters of the American Revolution historic preservation efforts. The medal recognizes and honors a person who has done extraordinary work in this field. It is the most prestigious preservation award the National Society presents to individuals. Brown’s contributions to historic preservation include serving as president of the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society for 14 years. During her tenure as president, the society library evolved from residing in a small rented space to its current 5,400-square-foot building, which the society will own free and clear in three years. Brown has taught classes at the library, led workshops on genealogy and was instrumental in indexing cemetery listings and other historical projects in the Rogue Valley. She has written grants to acquire funds to repair and purchase books and is a published author of several history books, including “The First 40 Years,” a history of the RVGS and its library. She is also a regular contributor to the RVGS newsletter. In approving Brown for this medal, the DAR's national chairwoman,  Martha Hartzog, wrote: “The National Society is deeply indebted to the people who receive this award because one of our major goals is to preserve our nation’s history. Mrs. Brown’s contribution to preserving the genealogy and history of Medford and Southern Oregon has been truly amazing.”   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 23, 2014 @ 11:33 am » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
