By Mark Freeman Mail Tribune Follow @@MTwriterFreeman Posted Jan. 18, 2016 at 2:08 PM Updated Jan 18, 2016 at 6:06 PM » Social News A customer at the oil changing station said she saw the man holding a knife before the shots were fired. The woman, who declined to give her name, was getting her car serviced and saw the shooting in her rear-view mirror. Deputy Medical Examiner Tim Pyke has arrived on scene. Police said they would release information about the shooting in about an hour. The last officer-involved shooting in Medford occurred on May 31, 2015, when police shot and killed James Anthony Morris, 40, on La Loma Drive after he pointed a weapon at officers and made threatening statements following a domestic disturbance. 2:10 p.m.: Jeremy Holeman, an attendant at the adjacent Arco Station, said he saw a man run across Crater Lake Highway and over a hedge behind the Pennzoil oil changing station and into the parking lot behind the business. Holeman said he heard someone identify himself as a police officer and tell the man to stop, but the man didn't comply. "I heard two loud pops," Holeman said. "I thought it was a stun gun." The shooter was about 6 feet from the victim when the shots were fired, Holeman said. Holeman said he thought the runner might have been a shoplifter from Sportsman's Warehouse, as it appeared that employees from Sportsman's Warehouse were chasing him. Police have swarmed the area and are interviewing possible witnesses. The man lying on the ground has been covered with a white blanket. 2 p.m.: A man reportedly was shot at about 1:45 p.m. today at the Pennzoil 10-Minute Oil Change at the corner of Delta Waters and Crater Lake Highway in Medford. The victim could be seen lying on his back in the back parking lot near the door to the oil change. Police have cordoned off the area.
