Mayo made the most of his first start in a year. Mayo scored 17 points to help the Milwaukee Bucks to a 98-86 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. He was 5 for 10 from the field and 4 for 4 at the line his first start since Dec. 14 at Dallas. “I just go out there hoopin’ man,” Mayo said. “You think of a pick-up game, you want to be among the first 10 guys to go out there and play.” Brandon Knight had 20 points and eight assists for Milwaukee (8-7), which avoided its first three-game slide of the season. Rookie Jabari Parker contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. Detroit (3-11) has lost five in a row and eight of nine. Andre Drummond had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons, and Greg Monroe added 15 points and eight boards. Drummond was averaging 8.7 points coming into the night, but shot 11 of 15 from the floor. Medford’s Kyle Singler scored eight points off the bench for the Pistons. Detroit guard Brandon Jennings missed his first game of the season after he hyperextended his left thumb late in Friday’s 99-89 loss at Atlanta. Jennings, who spent his first four seasons with the Bucks, is averaging 16 points and 5.8 assists per game. “We gave them 19 offensive rebounds, we had 19 turnovers and we were 7 of 17 at the free-throw line,” Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said. “They hit 10 3-pointers. Those were the four factors in the game. There’s really nothing else to talk about.” WARRIORS 114, HEAT 97: At Miami, Stephen Curry scored 40 points, and the Golden State Warriors beat the Miami Heat for their sixth consecutive victory. Golden State scored 14 straight points to open a 107-95 lead with 2:50 to go. Curry and Thompson capped the run with consecutive 3-pointers. Thompson had 24 points for the Warriors, who shot 57 percent. Curry was 12 for 19 from the field, including an 8-for-11 performance from 3-point range. Chris Bosh scored 26 points for Miami. HAWKS 106, WIZARDS 102: At Washington, reserves Mike Scott and Shelvin Mack led a fourth-quarter surge for the Hawks. Scott and Mack scored Atlanta’s first 16 points of the final period, sparking a 22-5 run that built a 14-point lead before the Wizards hit a spate of 3-pointers to make the final score close. Scott finished with 17 points in 23 minutes, and Mack had 13 in 19 for the Hawks. John Wall had 21 points and 13 assists for the Wizards. KINGS 99, PELICANS 89: At New Orleans, DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals, leading the Kings to their third straight win. He also had nine rebounds and blocked two shots. NUGGETS 114, BULLS 109: At Denver, Ty Lawson scored 20 points, including a key jumper in the waning seconds, and the Denver Nuggets earned their fifth straight win. Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was limited to 10 minutes in his second game back from a left hamstring strain.
