University and government sites, as well as emergency-preparedness agencies such as the Red Cross, generally provide reliable information. Start locally at the Oregon State University Extension Service home page, www.extension.oregonstate.edu . The "family / community" section of the site has directions for storing water under food safety and emergency preparedness listings. To store well water, it recommends either boiling the water for one minute or adding two drops of fragrance-free chlorine bleach per gallon before putting it in food-grade plastic jugs. Treated city water can be stored straight from the tap. The Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center, 569 Hanley Road, Central Point, also has copies of the information.
