In a trial that begins today in Jackson County Circuit Court, Jon Galfano hopes to prove that he was wrongfully terminated in August 2001 by officials at Medford’s KTVL-TV. Galfano’s civil lawsuit also alleges age discrimination and intentional infliction of emotional distress, his lawyer, Tom Howser of Ashland, said Monday. Galfano, 50, seeks about $340,000 in back pay, legal fees and damages, as well as reinstatement to the job he’d held since 1993. His suit names KTVL officials and the company’s parent firm, Freedom Broadcasting of Oregon. Advertisement Galfano alleges that discrimination and ill will were behind his sudden firing. He claims KTVL officials breached a contract by firing him without notice and without cause on Aug. 24, 2001, a week after a new two-year employment agreement was signed. Susan Kelley, KTVL’s general manager and vice president, has declined comment on the pending case.
