SOU falls to Chico State in soccer opener ASHLAND - Southern Oregon University women's soccer coach Jose Chavez planned to enlist a tough non-conference schedule for the 2001 season. On Sunday, the Raiders found out just how tough the early-going will be. Erica Perez and Amy Swanson scored two goals apiece to lead Division II foe Chico State University to a 5-0 win over SOU in the Raiders' season opener. The Wildcats (5-0) notched an early goal in the 10th minute on Perez's first score. Swanson put two more on the board just before halftime to give CSUC a 3-0 cushion. The Wildcats outshot SOU 38-8 for the game. Raider goalie Emily Schifferling finished with 21 saves. Southern Oregon continues its rugged non-conference slate with a game at second-ranked NAIA foe Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
