Medford earns spot in state final Jul 15, 2011 12:00 AM A A GRESHAM — Bennett Smith rallied Medford National in the seventh inning with the go-ahead, two-run single to catapult the Nationals into the championship game of the age 9-10 Little League state tournament with a 6-5 victory over Hood River. The title game is 11 a.m. Saturday. Hood River put the pressure on the Nationals by scoring a run in the top of the seventh to break a 4-all tie. But in the bottom half, the Nationals responded by loading the bases and Smith came through with the hit to keep Medford undefeated (3-0) in the event. Smith finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Robby Carle also went 2-for-4 with a run scored. On the mound, Daniel Shenk picked up the victory, pitching the final 12/3 innings and had a hit to go with three runs scored.
