The crash happened at 5:38 p.m. at milepost 27 of Highway 199, just south of Kerby. A 1999 Buick Sedan, driven by 27-year-old Joshua Gibson, was traveling north on the highway when Gibson attempted to go around another vehicle. OSP said he passed over the double yellow line and his vehicle slammed head on into a 2004 Ford pickup truck traveling south. The crash killed 25-year-old Claire Honsaker, 28-year-old Steve Stinson and 27-year-old Christopher Burke, all of Costa Mesa, Calif. It is not known who died at the scene and who died while being transported to the hospital. Gibson suffered serious injuries and was first transported to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass, then to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. A passenger in Gibson's car, Kean Krause, 21, also was taken to Three Rivers, then to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Hospital officials listed Krause in fair condition Friday. The Ford's operator, 34-year-old Cave Junction resident Michael Nolan, suffered minor injuries. Family members took him to a local hospital for treatment. OSP, the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Illinois Valley Fire Department, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Josephine County District Attorney's Office and American Medical Response all responded to the scene.
