Poor shooting dooms Raiders Raider roundup PORTLAND -- Southern Oregon University only lost two matches en route to a double-dual wrestling victory at the Oregon Classic Saturday. The Raiders shut out Pacific Lutheran 45-0 earlier in the day, then came back with an impressive 39-7 win over Simon Fraser. "We're starting to get where we need to be," Southern Oregon coach Mike Ritchey said. "We wrestled a bunch of tough (NCAA) Division 1 guys in the beginning of the year, but when we get back to our level of competition, we're starting to dominate." The Raiders registered four pins and a technical fall against Pacific Lutheran. Southern Oregon had six wrestlers register wins in both duals. Junior Dan Sturgell won by decision at 184 pounds against PLU, then moved up to 197 and posted a technical fall against Simon Fraser's Travis Morgan. Other Raider double winners were Nolan Harris (125), Justin Thurman (133), Jeremy Wynia (141), Chris Huntley (157) and Devin Cole (285). Women's Basketball EVERGREEN STATE 59, SOUTHERN OREGON 44 -- At Olympia, Wash., a cold-shooting night doomed Southern Oregon as Evergreen State ended a seven-game losing streak. The 15th-ranked Raiders only managed 12-for-63 shooting from the field. "When you get good looks against a zone, good teams make shots," Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett said. "You cannot win a game shooting 7-of-39 from 3-point range." Southern Oregon, which had won five of six games, jumped out to an 11-4 advantage with 12:35 left in the opening half but only made two more field goals before halftime. Glendale High product Liz Bresnan led the Raiders with 13 points.
