Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend November 4, 2005 Medford man’s death remains under scrutiny Police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old Medford man who died after a struggle with a family member late Wednesday. Jason Russell Fenton, of the 100 block of Elk Street, had been drinking at a Medford bar before arriving at a family member’s home at around 11:35 p.m. A struggle erupted between Fenton a male family member, who tried to restrain Fenton from driving away in a car while intoxicated, Medford police Lt. Tim George said. At some point, Fenton quit breathing. The relative then attempted CPR on Fenton until paramedics arrived. Fenton was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. George said there are several detectives working the case. An autopsy on Fenton was performed Thursday afternoon. The results are pending, George said. Ashland death under investigation ASHLAND — A 26-year-old Ashland man found dead in an alley downtown may have died on Halloween night, Ashland police said today. Advertisement Police do not know how Steven Andrew Burkemper, who lived at 725 Terra Ave., died. An autopsy is scheduled for today or Friday. "At this point in time, we don’t have any indication of foul play," APD deputy chief Rich Walsh said. A pedestrian discovered Burkemper’s body in the breezeway between US Bank and Trinity Episcopal Church off North Second Street in downtown early Wednesday morning, according to police reports. The pedestrian saw Burkemper, a Rogue Community College student, sitting in the breezeway at least twice on Tuesday before contacting the police. "The reason being is that ... he was in a sitting position. It appeared like he was sleeping," Walsh said. "It wasn’t until later he thought, ‘This is really odd, he’s still there.’" The pedestrian approached Burkemper at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday, saw he was dead and called 9-1-1. "There’s a possibility that he may have died over Halloween night," Walsh said. "Apparently he did indicate to a family member that he was going downtown for Halloween." Burkemper was not in costume and had not been reported missing. Anyone who knew Burkemper or was with him on Monday night is asked to contact APD detective Randy Snow at 482-5211.
