It’s against the law. — Paul C., Medford Well, Paul, we hate to break it to you, but there are different kinds of fireworks, some of which are indeed legal. We also have to tell you that those firework stands you saw in June and July were actually not in the city. They were just outside the city limits, according to Fire Marshal Greg Kleinberg. He said there are about five or six stands that people often assume are inside the city limits. Officials confirm they have the necessary state and local permits to operate and sell only allowed fireworks.. The city did have a complete ban on fireworks until 2009. At the time, the city decided to allow certain types of fireworks that don’t fly or explode, basically following state law that prohibits bottle rockets, firecrackers, Roman candles and any fireworks that fly, explode or travel more than 6 feet on the ground or 12 inches in the air. The city also decided not to allow the sale of any of the permissible fireworks inside the city, Kleinberg said. Several communities, including Jacksonville, Talent and Rogue River, prohibit the use of all fireworks. Medford, Central Point, Eagle Point and Phoenix allow the use of state-permitted fireworks, though Phoenix limits their use from June 23 to July 6, only between 8 p.m. and midnight and not in public places. Ashland prohibits the use of fireworks at any time, except for wire-cored sparklers, smoke bombs, party poppers and snakes. Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
