NBA ROUNDUP Blazers again hit 50-win mark Comment By The Associated Press MailTribune.com By The Associated Press Posted Apr. 5, 2015 at 12:01 AM By The Associated Press Posted Apr. 5, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News PORTLAND — There's significance in reaching 50 wins in two straight seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers: It's another step in becoming one of the West's elite teams. The mark was the latest achievement for the Blazers, who have already clinched a playoff berth and the Northwest Division title. Win No. 50 was a 99-90 victory over New Orleans Saturday night that snapped a four-game Pelican winning streak. "It's going in the right direction," said guard Damian Lillard. "A lot of the elite teams are consistently going over 50, and I think it's great for us to have back-to-back seasons with that." LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Kaman added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Portland, which is jockeying for home-court advantage among the Western Conference playoff teams. "I've never had 50 wins, so it feels good," Kaman said. Eric Gordon had 22 points for the Pelicans, who remain a half-game back of Oklahoma City for eighth place and the final playoff spot in the West. With both teams grappling for the lead, the Blazers pulled in front 88-85 on Nicolas Batum's 3-pointer with 3:59 left. Lillard was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all of his shots to push the lead to 91-85. Aldridge dunked to make it 95-85 with 2:18 left and New Orleans couldn't catch up. Lillard finished with 19 points. "They had 18 offensive rebounds so we just kept giving extra possessions to a team that doesn't need them," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "They didn't shoot the ball great tonight but they got so many opportunities." Portland (50-26) is locked in a tight battle with the Clippers and the Rockets for home-court advantage in the playoffs. The four teams with the best records in the Western Conference get home court. The Blazers have won five straight overall and eight straight at home against the Pelicans. New Orleans hasn't won in Portland since 2010. HAWKS 131, NETS 99: At Atlanta, Al Horford and DeMarre Carroll scored 20 points each to help Atlanta match a franchise record with their 57th win. However, the Hawks lost forward Paul Millsap to a right shoulder injury in a collision with Brooklyn's Earl Clark with 1:52 left in the first half. Jeff Teague added had 17 points as Atlanta never trailed while ending the Nets' season-best six-game winning streak. PISTONS 99, HEAT 98: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Reggie Jackson scored 15 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, including the winning layup with 5 seconds remaining. Andre Drummond had 11 points and 17 rebounds for his 44th double-double, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 19 points and Anthony Tolliver added 15 for the Pistons. WIZARDS 92, GRIZZLIES 83: At Memphis, Tenn., Bradley Beal scored 20, John Wall had 18 points and 14 assists for the Wizards. Drew Gooden added 16 for Washington, connecting on 6 of 10 shots, including 3 of 5 from outside the arc. Rasual Butler added 10 for the Wizards, who won their third straight. CELTICS 117, RAPTORS 116, OT: At Toronto, Marcus Smart hit a buzzer-beating layup in overtime to lift Boston. With 2.6 seconds left and Boston trailing by one, Smart took a pass from a driving Isaiah Thomas and sneaked behind the collapsing Toronto defense to score the winning basket, silencing the sellout crowd of 19,800. HORNETS 92, 76ERS 91: At Charlotte, N.C., Gerald Henderson's driving layup with 6 seconds left boosted Charlotte to the win. Kemba Walker had 24 points and Mo Williams added 18 as the Hornets won despite playing without three starters, including center Al Jefferson. MAGIC 97, BUCKS 90: At Milwaukee, Tobias Harris had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Nikola Vucevic scored 20 points for the Orlando Magic. Victor Oladipo added 15 points to help Orlando get its second road win in two nights after losing 12 straight away from home. WARRIORS 123, MAERICKS 110: At Dallas, Klay Thompson scored 21 points and the Golden State Warriors clinched home-court advantage throughout the playoffs with their 12th straight victory. The Warriors (63-13) need one more victory to assure finishing with the best record in the NBA for the first time since 1975-76. They hold the tiebreaker on Atlanta for the top overall seed. SUNS 87, JAZZ 85: At Phoenix, Gerald Green came off the bench to score all 24 of his points in three quarters, leading the Phoenix Suns to a win. Green didn't play in the first quarter, scored 10 points in the second and caught fire in the fourth with 10 more. CLIPPERS 107, NUGGETS 92: At Denver, J.J. Redick scored 24 points, DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and 22 rebounds and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Denver Nuggets. Chris Paul had 23 points and nine assists for the Clippers, who moved a half-game ahead of San Antonio for the fifth seed in the Western Conference with their ninth win in 10 games.
