Pager leads police to suspect in sex assault A pager that a victim knocked loose during a burglary and attempted rape early Monday led Medford police to arrest a suspect Tuesday. Police identified the suspect as Juan Carlos Gutierrez-Perez, 24, of 417 J St., Medford. He was arrested on first-degree charges of attempted rape, sexual abuse, unlawful sexual penetration and burglary. He was lodged on $3,010,000 bail in the Jackson County Jail. Lt. Tim George said that police arrested Gutierrez-Perez July 23 on charges of burglary and prostitution. They stemmed from an incident in which the suspect was alleged to have unlawfully entered a residence and offered the victim money for sex. Gutierrez-Perez had been released on his own recognizance pending a trial date on those charges in January. "This is a pretty dangerous fellow to be out in the community," George said. In Monday's incident, police were told about an attempted rape, sexual abuse and burglary that occurred about 2:25 a.m. Police said a man entered the residence at 2001 Table Rock Rd., No. 77, through an unlocked door. During the attack, George said, the victim knocked loose a pager from the attacker's belt. Police found it and traced it to Gutierrez-Perez, who was arrested about 11 a.m. Tuesday at 809 S. Pacific Highway, Talent. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
