Fleeing suspect hurls helmet at deputy An alleged motorcycle thief who threw his helmet at pursuing sheriff's deputies suffered serious injuries early Sunday after crashing the motorcycle, which turned out to be stolen. Frankie Dean Moulton, 17, of Cave Junction, was listed in serious condition Sunday in the intensive care unit at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford following the crash. A Josephine County sheriff's deputy spotted Moulton and 18-year-old Brenton David Bruso of Cave Junction speeding on the motorcycle south along Highway 199 at 2:40 a.m. Sunday. When the deputy tried to pull them over, the two sped off and led the deputy along Redwood Avenue. At one point during the chase, Moulton threw his helmet at the deputy's car. At the intersection of Redwood and Ojai avenues, Moulton lost control and crashed. Bruso, who was still wearing his helmet, ran off and hid in a field for the night. He was spotted after daybreak walking down Redwood Avenue. He ran off again but was found and arrested at 8:20 a.m. He was treated and released at Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass for injuries suffered in the crash. Deputies said the motorcycle had been stolen from a Grants Pass hotel. Bruso and Moulton were arrested on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Moulton also faces charges of felony attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and attempted assault on a police officer. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
