Hikers should meet at Doc Griffin Park, at the corner of South Fourth and Pine streets, Jacksonville. The Woodlands Association was established 25 years ago by Jacksonville citizens concerned about the prospect of development destroying the wooded hillsides surrounding the town. The group has preserved 22 parcels of forested open space totaling 320 acres and has constructed 18 miles of interpretive and recreational trails. A trail counter on the Woodlands' Rich Gulch Trail in 2013 showed an average 1,581 people use the trail every month. Other counters determined a total of 19,000 hikers used parts of the Woodland trails in one year.   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 10, 2015 at 12:04 PM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
