Personnel from the fire district responded shortly after 2 p.m. to a report that a woman in her 40s had been bitten, district spokesman Jason Bayless said this morning. Bayless said it was his understanding that the victim was an employee. She was taken by ambulance to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass. Bayless characterized the injury as non-life-threatening. He said he didn't know if the bite went all the way through the woman's arm. According to a statement posted late this morning on the park's Facebook page, the incident occurred when a keeper got too close to an enclosure. "At no time did the tiger leave his enclosure, and there was never any danger to the public," the statement said. "Though there is an inherent risk in caring for wild animals, this is the first incident of its kind at Great Cats World Park, and we are grateful that our employee is doing well. "For those who have expressed concern for the tiger involved, he is and will remain unharmed." Josephine County Public Health Director Diane Hoover said all animal bites occurring in the county must be reported to her department, preferably on the day of the event, and that as of this morning her department had not been notified. She said an Animal Protection officer would visit the park today. Exotic animal parks are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Great Cats World Park, at 27919 Redwood Highway, was established 11 years ago, and is home to 45 cats, according to the park's website.
