Cross country runners shine in national contest Two of four Southern Oregon Sizzlers runners earned All-American status Saturday at the USATF National Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships in Chicago. A top-25 finish qualifies one as an All-American. Trevor Coolidge, a sophomore at St. Mary's High in Medford, placed 19th in the intermediate boys (ages 15-16) division, running 5,000 meters in 16:46. There were 257 boys in Coolidge's race, won in 16:06 by Aaron Fisher. It was Coolidge's second trip to nationals, which were held in Portland last year. He placed 23rd in a younger division. "This year, he was on the young end of his division and he actually improved his placement competing against older kids," said Joe Volk, the youth program director of the Sizzlers, who accompanied the contingent. "He had a good season all along, so what he did is not a big surprise. But it's rewarding to see him do so well at the national meet." The club's other All-American, Brian Parmer of Grants Pass, placed eighth in the youth boys (13-14) division, covering 4,000 meters in 13:13. Martina Patella, a junior at St. Mary's, placed 68th in the young women's (17-18) division. She clocked 22:10 for 5,000 meters.
