According to Medford police, Geno King, 19, reportedly jumped from the second story of an apartment complex in Dayton, Ohio, when officers from the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team were going door to door trying to track him down. He didn't get far. "The story I'm hearing is they were interviewing the occupants of the apartments where they thought he was going to be. As (police) were doing interviews, he suddenly bailed out of a second story balcony," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said . "There were perimeter units that were right there, addressed him at gunpoint, and he obeyed their commands." King was taken into custody at about 7 a.m. Pacific Time, Budreau added. He will be extradited back to Medford. Court records show he has been indicted on a charge of first-degree assault and four counts each of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. The shooting was reported at 1:37 a.m. July 30 in the 400 block of South Columbus Street. Upon arrival, police found homes on opposite sides of the street had been hit and an 18-year-old woman had been struck in the leg. The woman, who police do not believe was the intended target, was treated at a hospital and released. She was standing with a group of people when King allegedly fired the shots, police said. Police apprehended the alleged driver in the shooting, 20-year-old Jared Scott Carvalho, July 31. A detective spotted a car matching the description of the one that drove past during the shooting in Medford and followed it to an area near Sportsman's Warehouse on Delta Waters Road. Officers arrested Carvalho, who has been in the Jackson County Jail since Aug. 1 on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to jail records. His bail is set at $1 million. Court records show he is set to head to trial Jan. 26, 2016. Since that arrest, Medford police have continued to coordinate with the U.S. Marshals, fearing King fled the area. Detectives came across new information this past week, which narrowed their search. "We received information that he was in the Dayton, Ohio, area and notified authorities over there," Budreau said. "They were actively looking for him." Police in Ohio handed out flyers to store owners and residents, narrowing their search and eventually tracking King to the apartment building where they arrested him.
