Central Ave., Medford. Brazen working-class hairdresser Rita is looking to better herself by registering at a university for English literature classes, while middle-aged, alcoholic academic Frank is looking to pay for his drinks by tutoring her. Ultimately, the pair form an unlikely bond that alters their lives forever. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the box office, 16 S. Bartlett St., online at craterian.org or by calling 541-779-3000. 'A Dream of Red Pavilions' — A staged reading of playwright Jeremy Tiang's adaptation of the Chinese novel will be presented at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, in the Thomas Theatre on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival campus, 15 S. Pioneer St., Ashland. A love story set during the Qing Dynasty's rule in 18th-century China, the drama follows an aristocratic family's decline. When spirit-being Jia Baoyu is reborn as a mortal, he finds himself torn between sensual pleasures and familial duty. The family is living in unimaginable luxury despite its heavy debts, out of touch with the real world. The cast features Jomar Tagatac, Leah Anderson, Erica Sullivan, Paul Juhn, Cristofer Jean, Terri McMahon, Nancy Rodriguez, Sara Bruner, K.T. Vogt, Regan Linton, Allison Buck and Moira Todd. Mei Ann Teo, a Phil Killian Directing Fellow, directs. Tickets cost $12, $8 for age 6 through 17, and can be purchased online at osfashland.org or by calling 541-482-4331. Futurebirds — The Georgia-based Futurebirds will perform its mix of dreamy, offbeat pop and heavy twang at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Brickroom Gathering House, 35 N. Main St., Ashland. The band sounds as though a lap-steel player ate a couple of magic mushrooms and zoned out to Pink Floyd's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn." The outfit picks up the country-psych tradition on its 2013 "Baba Yaga, and takes it to the uncomfortable corners of our minds. It may not be cheery, but it jams. Admission is $7 in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1299244; or $10 at the door. 'Million Dollar Quartet' — Based on a true story, this Tony Award-winning musical tells of the chance meeting of music legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis in 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis, Tenn. It was a meeting that was immortalized in a recorded jam session. Craterian Performances presents "Million Dollar Quartet" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Tickets cost $48, $54, $60 or $66 and can be purchased at the Craterian box office, 16 S. Bartlett St., online at craterian.org or by calling 541-779-3000. Tim & Myles Thompson — The guitar and fiddle duo from Nashville, Tenn., will play original acoustic rock, pop, jazz, Celtic and funk at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Paschal Winery, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent. Father and son, the Thompsons are prolific songwriters and singers. Tim Thompson is a session player in Nashville, and the winner of the 2008 International Fingerstyle Championship. Tickets cost $25 and can be reserved online at siskiyoumusicproject.com , at [email protected] or by calling 541-488-3869.
