Ashland wraps up SOC volleyball title KLAMATH FALLS -- With four games left in the regular season, Ashland High's volleyball team is already looking forward to the Class 4A state tournament. The Grizzlies (24-2 overall) clinched the Southern Oregon Conference title and a berth in the state tournament with a 15-3, 15-7 win over Klamath Union Thursday night. Ashland is 12-0 in the SOC. "It's nice to finally take a breath," said Ashland coach Josh Rohlfing. "I feel like I've been holding my breath for three or four weeks." Loriana Berman and Amy Williams each had seven kills for the Grizzlies. Williams had three solo blocks. Carrie Manning added three aces and was 14-for-15 serving. "It was a good all-round effort," said Rohlfing. "We made big plays in the second game when we had to, and they (the Pelicans) forced us to do some things." In the second game, Ashland and Klamath Union were tied at 7-7 before the Grizzlies spurted to a 9-6 lead as Williams served two aces in the flurry. "They're head and shoulders above us and everyone else in this conference," said Klamath Union coach Malcom Munson, whose team fell to 9-3 in the SOC. "They play very good defense. We thought we hit a few balls that were headed for the floor and they dug them up." Munson was most impressed with Ashland setter Chelsea Morgan. "She's the best player in the conference," Munson said. "She knows what the matchups are and consistently gets the ball to the right hitters. Kristina Matchett led the Pelcians with 10 kills, five digs and two aces and Kaylene Munson added seven kills, three blocks and two digs.
