Cody Edward Daigneault, 25, of the 5400 block of South Pacific Highway, pleaded guilty to felony first-degree animal abuse. "If I'm you, I'm doing everything my probation officer says," Jackson County Circuit Judge Timothy Barnack said sternly when handing down the sentence. Daigneault's probation terms include that he have no pets for 15 years and possess no weapons. He also must pay $260 in restitution. On Dec. 12, 2014, police responded to a report that a man had shot a cat with a bow and arrow. A police officer found multiple people giving aid to a cat that had been shot through its body with an arrow. The officer could see an entry and exit wound on the cat, according to an affidavit. Meanwhile, Daigneault was in the custody of another police officer on a probation violation from a previous case. Daigneault admitted to shooting the cat and said it was a nuisance on his property, knocking over his garbage cans and getting in fights with his cats. He was jailed on the probation violation and a first-degree animal abuse charge, the affidavit said. After court on Wednesday, Daigneault said his neighbor had numerous nuisance cats that caused damage to his property. He said the cat he shot had survived and he does not now have any pets. In December 2012, Daigneault pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and fourth-degree assault after assaulting a woman, court records show. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants in June 2013. In March 2014, Daigneault pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon. He had violated a no-contact order barring him from contacting the woman he had assaulted and had a spring-assisted pocketknife with a three-inch blade in his pocket, according to an affidavit.
