Raiders tame Lions, sweep season series ASHLAND The Southern Oregon University softball team swept the five-game season series with Patten College and captured its third consecutive victory with a 7-2 triumph Tuesday. An 11-hit attack propelled the Raiders (12-9) to their second home win over the Lions (5-19) in as many days, including a 3-for-3 performance by freshman outfielder Krystle Clark. Junior leftfielder Angie Varnado (2-for-4, three RBI, one run), sophomore shortstop Latisha Inget (2-for-4, one run) and sophomore third baseman Angie Chaplin (2-for-4, two runs) accounted for the bulk of the Raider offense. Sophomore pitcher Brandi Brown, who yielded two unearned runs and four hits in five innings, improved to 12-8 on the season, and freshman Tasha Ford scattered two hits in two scoreless innings of relief. "Im impressed with the way our players responded when they fell behind, both today and (Monday in a 7-3 win)," Raider coach James Gravelle said. "We still need to stop making mistakes on what should be routine plays." Patten received a two-hit plate effort junior infielder Kelly Hernandez, but starting pitcher Kenna Ramos took the loss after allowing five runs three earned and eight hits in three innings. Southern Oregon continues an eight-game homestand Thursday at 1 p.m. with a non-conference doubleheader against College of Notre Dame.
