Gritty North Valley salvages split with Rogue River ROGUE RIVER -- The North Valley softball team may be virtually out of postseason contention, but the Knights refuse to say die. Rogue River found out just what North Valley is made of in a Skyline Conference doubleheader Saturday. After dropping a 7-1 loss in Game 1, the Knights gutted out a 7-6, 10-inning victory in Game 2. "We have a great rivalry with Rogue River," said second-year North Valley head coach Jeff Conard. "Players from both teams know each other from Little League and ASA. We've always had really good games." The Knights (9-12 overall, 8-9 Skyline) received a solid 10-inning pitching performance from Tara Ironside (6-7) and pounded out 12 hits to claim Game 2. An Ironside single and Shea Miller double drove in North Valley's two runs in the 10th. The Chieftains (13-4 Skyline) countered with a Kristi Frederick run-scoring double and loaded the bases with no outs before Ironside induced three consecutive ground balls, the first two leading to force outs at home plate. Katie Glasscock was dominant in the opener, pitching a five-hit complete game for Rogue River. Frederick blasted a double and triple in both ends of the doubleheader. Rusti Mosser was 3-for-6 with two RBIs in the first game, and pitcher Laural Kelley fanned eight batters in three innings and allowed one hit. In Game 2, Chelsea Winner, Makenzie Ennis and Kathleen Wolfe each had three hits and four runs. Nicole Plummer scored five runs.
