Mustangs sweep away foes ALOHA - The Medford Mustangs brought out their big bats to sweep a doubleheader from Glencoe and Aloha on Sunday. In Game 1, Phil Ouellette capped an eight-run first inning with a grand slam as the Mustangs beat Glencoe 20-2.Ouellette went 3-for-4 including another home run, a three-run shot, with seven RBIs. Travis Dunlap belted his fourth home run of the season and Matt Skundrick hit his second as the Mustangs tied their season high for runs. Evan McArthur received all the support he would need in pitching a complete game and registering his first win of the season. McArthur even helped his own cause, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. In the nightcap, Dunlap blasted another home run, a two-run shot, as the Mustangs defeated Aloha 7-4 in nine innings to win their fifth straight. Brent Kircher allowed just one earned run and struck out five in seven innings to pick up his third victory of the season. Chris Empio came on in the ninth, retired the side in order and picked up his first save. Rob Folsom, Skundrick and McArthur each hit doubles. Next up for the Mustangs, 18-13, is a trip to The Dalles. NORTH JACKSON TAKES TWO FROM SOUTH MEDFORD - North Jackson pitching allowed just one run and three hits in a doubleheader sweep against the South Medford Colts at Eagle Point. In Game 1, Carl Christian allowed one run, one hit and one walk to lead North Jackson to a 11-1 rout in five innings. Daniel Chavez pitched a shut-out and gave up only one hit while striking out eight as North Jackson won the second game 5-0.Chris Boyd went 3-for-3 for North Jackson, 9-17, in the first game with two RBIs and two runs scored. NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS TAKE SEVENTH - The North Medford Mavericks defeated the Central Panthers from Monmouth 6-2 in six innings for seventh place at the Best of the West tournament in Eugene. Brett Timmerman went the distance for the Mavericks allowing only one earned run while scattering five hits. Jeff Adams supplied the offense for the Mavericks, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. In late action on Saturday, the Mavericks, 9-13-2, lost to the Washington Baseball System, 12-2 in five innings. K.C. Herren led the way for the Washington all-stars going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Matt Tuiasosopo, brother of University of Washington football standout Marques, went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. MEDFORD LITTLE LEAGUE ALL-STAR TEAM ROMPS - The Medford National Little League Junior All-stars are headed to the Oregon Little League State Tournament in Salem. Medford routed Illinois Valley 43-1 in four innings to win the Little League District 8 Championship and propel itself into the state tournament, which begins July 19 at Parrish High School. Daryn Register hit an inside-the-park home run for Medford while Chris Stevens had three doubles and Zach Wilson had a pair of doubles. Every player had a base hit for Medford.
