Local golfer turns pro Former Ashland High standout and University of Oregon golfer Andrew Tredway turned professional after graduation and is now competing on the North Atlantic Tour based in Boston. The North Atlantic Tour is in its 13th season as a developmental tour for aspiring professional golfers. Tredway, 23, set a course record 65 during the Wedgewood Pines Classic in Stowe, Mass., along with victories in the Bethel Classic in Bethel, Maine, shooting rounds of 70-70 and a 4-under-par 140. He also won the New York Classic, Hudson Falls, N.Y., on Monday with a single round score of 4-under-par 68. Tredway shot 79-70 to place second in the Western Mass. Open and carded a 72-69 to take third in the Westover Classic in Ludlow, Mass. He boasts a scoring average of 71.65 for 23 rounds of competition this summer as a professional, improving on his 75.0 average in collegiate competition. Tredway was one of only two Oregon golfers to qualify for the 1999 U.S. Amateur Championships and holds an OGA Match Play championship under his belt. He was also the 1994 Oregon Junior State champion and was the low qualifier of all Oregonians at the U.S. Junior Championships. Tredway made a run at qualifying for the PGA Greater Hartford Open in June but just came up short. Nearly 200 competitors tried out for the event with only four spots available for the tournament. Tredway went to a second extra hole playoff before bowing out, nearly missing out on his first PGA tournament.
