Monster X Tour Owner Danny Torgerson said the employee accidentally looked at the number of tickets that had been sold for a more lightly attended Saturday afternoon truck show when calculating how many tickets were still available for Saturday evening's show. That mistake led to about 300 tickets being sold beyond the event's capacity, Torgerson said. The monster truck show was staged in the 3,200-seat capacity Compton Arena at The Expo. Many customers who were turned away took to social media to vent their frustrations, saying they and their children were disappointed and families should not waste money trying to go to future Monster X Tour shows. "It's absolutely unfortunate," Torgerson said. "I have kids myself and I know how they would feel. We've got the situation corrected." To help prevent future mishaps, he said Monster X Tour will choose one outlet for ticket sales. Tickets were sold online and also through The Black Bird Shopping Center in Medford. Monster X Tour received reports from Black Bird about how many tickets sold at the store, but adding up both online and physical location sales contributed to the confusion over how many seats remained available Saturday night, Torgerson said. He said the company hasn't yet decided whether it will choose online sales or physical location sales for future monster truck shows. Torgerson said people who bought tickets but were turned away Saturday night received refunds that evening. However, some customers writing on social media said they couldn't figure out how to get their refunds. At Black Bird, employees said they hadn't received phone calls from people who couldn't get into the show nor had irate customers come in asking for refunds. They said Monster X Tour is in charge of handling refunds. One upset woman posted on social media that monster truck show tickets were also oversold last year. She said her family members had to sit in an area that should have been kept clear as a fire aisle. She said the company shouldn't be allowed to sell tickets to more people than they can safely seat. Torgerson said it's difficult to get the right amount of people in to fit the venue's capacity because of bench-style seating. People spread out their belongings, such as jackets, which takes up seating needed by other guests, he said. Reports of fans skirting the gates and jumping fences Saturday night prompted Jackson County sheriff's deputies and Central Point police to respond. Several calls to The Expo's office about its role in preventing future problems were not returned on Monday. Torgerson said he thought The Expo staff handled the difficult situation professionally. Next year, he said, he plans to stage four truck shows to accommodate crowds. The Eagle Point-based company puts on events across North America.
