Play was suspended by darkness, with 54 of the 312 players failing to finish their rounds. A rain delay of 90 minutes to begin the day led to the suspension. The cut when play resumed today was projected to be 3 over. Wu shot a 75 in the first round and was 8 over after playing the North Course in the second round. He had one birdie and five bogeys on his card and was in 176h place when play stopped. The top 64 players at the end of the second round advance to match play. Brett Coletta, 19, of Australia, posted a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 133 to hold the overnight lead. Coletta’s 4-under-par 66 on the North Course places him one stroke ahead of David Oraee, of Greeley, Colo., who shot 67 on the South Course for a 134 total. Among those who did not complete play but are within striking distance to pass or tie Coletta for the stroke-play medal are Jake Knapp, of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Japan’s Kenta Kinoshi (both at 4 under through 27 holes). Knapp is a former player in the American Junior Golf Association tournament at Centennail Golf Club. He placed second by five shots in 2010 when George Cunningham set the tournament record of 17-under 199. Cunningham, too, is in the U.S. Amateur and is tied for sixth place after a second-round 66. AJGA EVENT POSTPONED: Tuesday's scheduled first round of the American Junior Golf Association tournament at Centennial Golf Club was postponed to today because of unhealthy smoke levels. The Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior attracts top juniors, ages 12 to 18 years old. Vince Domenzain, general manager and director of golf at Centennial, said the morning air quality index indicated hazardous conditions for those with allergies or breathing issues. Tournament officials considered an afternoon shotgun start before deciding the air hadn't sufficiently cleared. The tournament is now expected to be 36 holes, keeping the original schedules for Wednesday and Thursday so as not to interfere with travel plans of participants. Of the 137 boys and girls registered, 115 are from outside Oregon.
