It's been too long. Still, it seemed paltry to other nearby spots, (almost a foot in Ashland!) and it got me curious as to what the greatest recorded amount was in the city? — No name given We won't get you wrong. At Since You Asked, being wrong is basically the opposite of our entire mission. You're correct, snowfall in the city limits was a bit paltry compared to other spots right around the corner. The Medford airport, where the city takes its measurement, received about half an inch of the white stuff in 24 hours. Three miles to the east, close to seven inches fell. A few miles north of Phoenix, three inches fell. Compare that half inch to a couple instances in the early 1900s, the number gets even more wimpy. About 11 inches fell in 24 hours in Medford on Dec. 11, 1919, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Sven Nelaimischkies.
