Chang Cheng Hsun, the "John D. Rockefeller of China," acted as a chairman of the party. JAPANESE SHOW LOYALTY TO FLAG Japanese of the city have subscribed $34 for the Fourth of July celebration in this city, and a check for that amount has been made out by Maru, leader of the Japanese colony, to Mayor V.J. Emerick. The check will be presented to the head of the city this afternoon. Each and every subject of the mikado within the corporate limits was assessed to make up the total. Maru explained that owing to a financial stringency among the countrymen they were able to give no more. The Japanese of the city, as a further evidence of their loyalty, will all wear flags in their buttonholes upon the birth of the nation. They will hold a small celebration of their own, of which fireworks and the American flag with a feast will be the principal features. The Japanese children will take the leading part in this occasion. The securing of funds was under the direction of S. Maru, steward of the University club, and secretary of the Japanese association of the Rogue River valley. WILD ANIMALS INVADE ORCHARDS Farmers and orchardists of the valley have enlisted the aid of the game wardens in curbing the depredations of deer and other wild animals. Last night five trees in one orchard were stripped of limbs, and Deputy District Game Warden Sam Sandry and Game Warden Walker are trying to discover the nature of the animal. Their clue is a bunch of hair glued to the end of a twig, from which pitch had flowed. Opinion is divided whether it was a porcupine or a deer. They are inclined to believe it was a porcupine, as no tracks were left.
