UPDATED: VA officer wounds one in shooting in White City An officer-involved shooting occurred at the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City this morning. [Mail Tribune / Jamie Lusch] Thursday Jan 25, 2018 at 9:41 AM Jan 25, 2018 at 1:08 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil   WHITE CITY — An officer-involved shooting occurred at about 8:30 this morning at the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City. The incident was reported at 8:29 a.m., when Veterans Affairs police dispatch contacted 911 for assistance with the shooting, according to a media release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Responders learned VA police had been called to Building 201A after reports of a "combative" male patient in the admissions area, the release said. An altercation reportedly ensued between the man and police, which is when a gun discharged and struck the man. No officers were hurt. Details about what prompted the altercation were not immediately available. Mercy Flights transported the man to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with a single gunshot wound, the release said. His injuries "do not appear to be life-threatening," the release said. Scanner traffic just after the incident indicated the man had been shot in the chest. Police have identified the man, but they have declined to release his name or the names of involved police officers. The campus is still on lockdown while the investigation continues. The Jackson County Major Assault & Death Investigation Unit remains on scene, led by the sheriff's department. Oregon State Police, Medford police, Ashland police and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office are assisting.  "When there is a shooting involved here on the VA SORCC campus, it is to be reviewed and given over to the local authorities," SORCC spokesperson Rhonda Haney said. All appointments have been canceled today and Friday, Haney said. "It's going to be a hard day," said Joel Setzer, who was at a convenience store near SORCC, said he has previously stayed at the facility and received treatment there. Detectives are hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed or heard the incident.
