PREP ROUNDUP Mapleton tops Butte Falls, 54-22 MAPLETON -- Nic Siewert passed for 108 yards and rushed for 100 more and Nick Ninger threw for 145 yards to lead Mapleton to a 54-22 non-league football victory over Butte Falls on Thursday. The host Sailors led 32-0 before Butte Falls was able to get on the board in the second period. Mapleton junior Rick Simington caught three touchdown passes and totaled 129 yards receiving and his brother Jose had two scoring receptions totaling 82 yards. Mapleton moved to 4-1 with the win, while Butte Falls fell to 1-3. Cross Country REGIS INVITATIONAL -- At Stayton, St. Mary's junior Trevor Coolidge captured the boys 5K race against 161 other runners. Coolidge tied a season-best time of 16:21 and defeated Mark Welsh of Neah-Kah-Nie for the first time in five career races. Welsh finished second in last year's 2A state cross country meet. Coolidge separated from a pack of four runners that included Welsh on a hill at the two-mile mark and pulled away to post a 21-second victory.
