Since You Asked: Medford tied Palm Springs for hottest urban area in country Friday Sunday Aug 21, 2016 at 8:16 PM Aug 21, 2016 at 8:16 PM I saw in a couple places that Medford had the hottest high temperature in the country on Aug. 19. Come on. That can't be right. — No name given When they're wrong, you're right. In this case. That information seems to be in conflict with what the folks at the National Weather Service told us. Yes, it definitely got hot: 109 degrees at the Medford airport, the site used to gauge the city's high temperature. That broke a high temperature record for the city previously set that day in 1967. Here's the deal, though: we weren't clear victors. We tied Palm Springs, which also hit 109 degrees, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Charles Smith. It also hit 113 degrees in Cave Junction in the next county over. Oh, and 116 in Death Valley. So close. Personally, we're glad we didn't win.
