HEAT ADVISORY National Weather Service calls for 110 degrees today Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 19, 2016 at 11:34 AM Updated Aug 19, 2016 at 12:26 PM Posted Aug. 19, 2016 at 11:34 AM Updated Aug 19, 2016 at 12:26 PM » Social News Local report Forecasters are calling for a high of 110 degrees today, prompting the cancellation of some local events this weekend. Medford set a heat record of 108 degrees Thursday, and Misty Duncan, meteorologist for the Medford National Weather Service, said Medford will see a high of 110 degrees today. The record for the date, set in 1967, is 107. "High temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal, with some locations reaching as much as 110 degrees," the Weather Service said in a heat advisory. "Exertion of any kind in such heat can be dangerous even for healthy adults, but the very young, elderly and infirm are at high risk for heat-related illnesses." The Southern Oregon Speedway announced on its Facebook page that Friday and Saturday events would be cancelled in light of the heat, with make-up races next weekend. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Green Show was cancelled Thursday night and may be cancelled Friday and Saturday. Updates about cancellations are announced the afternoon of a show. Today's Talent Evening Market was also cancelled.
