[Mail Tribune / Andy Atkinson] An envelope inside Wednesday’s Mail Tribune is designed to help readers feed hungry Jackson County residents during a time of need. In recognition of Hunger Action Month — observed by food banks across the country — Jackson County’s regional food bank is asking for monetary donations through its latest envelope campaign or food donations through specially assembled food bags available at Sherm’s Food 4 Less and Thunderbird markets. The bags contain food items the nonprofit knows it needs, according to Marcee Champion, nutrition program coordinator. Specially marked bags can be purchased to help seniors, to help children or to help Latino communities. The nonprofit has seen a 60% increase in visits to ACCESS food pantries since January. Between May and August, the nonprofit saw a 32% increase in individual visits and a 25% increase in household visits, according to Champion.
