Three firefighters injured in fire-engine crash Monday Aug 28, 2017 at 10:29 AM Aug 28, 2017 at 1:35 PM Three firefighters working on the Miller wildfire complex burning around the area of Applegate Lake were injured in a fire-engine crash Sunday afternoon. One firefighter was seriously injured, while two others received minor injuries, according to a news release. The crash happened when the engine rolled off the road near the junction of U.S. Forest Service roads 1030 and 1035. The names of the injured, along with details about their condition and specific time of the incident, were not immediately available. "We are still putting the timeline together," said fire public information officer Sierra Hellstrom. Families of the injured have been notified. On Monday, the Miller complex, made up of 25 lightning-sparked fires in the Applegate Valley, was listed today as 9,628 acres in size. Fire officials had previously sized the fire at more than 14,000 acres, but reduced their estimate Monday due to a computing error. While all 25 fires continue to be monitored, only six of the fires are growing: Creedence fire, Bigelow fire, Burnt Peak fire, Seattle fire, Abney fire and Cook fire. A Level 1 — "get ready" — evacuation advisory was issued along parts of Upper Applegate Road, including Palmer Creek Road at Upper Applegate Road to the split of U.S. Forest Service roads 1090 and 1095; west of Upper Applegate Lake and east of the Applegate River from Palmer Creek Road to Jackson Campground; Boulder City at 11425 Upper Applegate Road, Carberry Creek Road at Applegate Road to Steamboat Ranch, and the Joe Bar area. An estimated 550 personnel are assigned to the complex.
