Justice sought in fatal shooting Demonstrators voice support for family of 20-year-old man slain by deputy U.S. marshals last week About 25 people gathered Tuesday at noon in front of the Justice building in Medford asking for just that — justice. The protesters said they were standing up for James "Jimmy" Georgeson, a 20-year-old Medford man who was killed Jan. 5 by members of the U.S. Marshals Service because they believe the shooting was unjustified. The protesters said they were standing up for James "Jimmy" Georgeson, a 20-year-old Medford man who was killed Jan. 5 by members of the U.S. Marshals Service because they believe the shooting was unjustified. Kimberly Grant, who attended the Tuesday protest on the corner of North Oakdale Avenue and West Eighth Street, said she did not know Georgeson well but feels compelled to support his family. "I was attacked by a police officer nine years ago for filing a complaint about him," Grant said. "I'm a retired registered nurse, and I still carry that fear. I just want to save the other Jimmys." Grant said she would like to see a citizen review outside of law enforcement that would determine whether the deputy U.S. marshals were justified in shooting Georgeson in a crowded shopping center parking lot. "We need people outside of law enforcement to decide," said Grant. "We need the videos, we need to see what happened." Madison McIntosh, who attended the protest Tuesday, said she had met Georgeson only once but wanted to support his family. "I could tell he had a good heart," said McIntosh. "I don't believe he deserved to die. What happened wasn't right." McIntosh said her fingers were sore from defending Georgeson online against the slew of negative comments about Georgeson and his family on the Internet since the shooting. "We have to support the family. They can't do this on their own. They are grieving right now," said a protester who identified herself as Shavon Christmas. "So many people are being horrible online. They need our love and support." Some drivers passing by the protest showed support by honking their horns and sometimes yelling out. At least two police cars were parked on adjacent corners from the group. This was to protect the protesters' rights and to make sure others weren't being harassed and could pass by on the sidewalk, said Medford police Lt. Bob Hansen. "We want a fair trial. Both sides should be heard," said Colby Elmore, who described himself as a friend of Georgeson's for eight years. "We have to be his voice because he doesn't have one anymore," said Grant. "He's up there in heaven right now saying, 'Thanks guys.'
