Denman who died November 21, 2015 will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Medford at 85 S. Holly Street. Don was born June 13, 1933 in Medford to Kenneth and Margaret Denman. He graduated from Medford High School in 1951 and received his business degree from Oregon State College in 1955. Don served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator for the Strategic Air Command from 1956 to 1959. Don was married to Sandra Kerr Daley in 1959. He then attended Willamette University College of Law, serving as Student Body President, and then receiving his Doctorate of Law in 1962. He returned to Medford to practice law with his father, Ken Denman, but Ken’s untimely death in 1962 ended those dreams. Don and John P. “Jack” Cooney formed a law partnership that lasted for over 25 years, until Jack became a Federal Magistrate. Don then merged his practice with Stuart Foster’s law firm and practiced law with Foster Denman until his retirement in 2008. He also served as a pro-tem circuit court judge during this period. In addition to his law practice, Don was actively involved as a community and state leader. He served on the Boards and as chairman of many groups including the Girls Community Club, Friends of the Library, KSYS Public Television, Jackson County Community Concert Association, the Medford Rotary Club, and the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater. In 1967 he was selected as one of Oregon’s Ten Outstanding Young Men by the Oregon Jaycees. He was active in Oregon Bar Association matters, serving as past president of Jackson County Bar Association and as chairs of the Oregon State Bar Legal Ethics Committee, for its Estate Planning section, and its Disciplinary Review Board. An active conservationist, Don served as vice-chair of the Bureau of Land Management District Advisory Board, the local Izaak Walton League and the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission, where he served for almost 10 years. A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford, Don served as Elder and assumed leadership roles in nearly every church committee in his 82 years. He proudly sang in its Chancel Choir for over 50 years. Don and Sandra had two children who survived him: Donna Kaye Erwin and her husband, Richard and Diane Johansen and her husband, Todd; and two grandchildren, Carter Reed Johansen and Cole Bolt Johansen. In 1984 he married Kristy Henshaw King who also survives him. Don and Kristy recently moved into Medford after having lived in their hillside home near Jacksonville for most of their 31 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Don is survived by his sisters, Ann Hultgren and Carol Holst; and his brother-in-law, Monty Holst. Don’s immediate family, extended family, and family of friends will greatly miss his presence in their lives. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Allison Savage for her expert care and kindness during the past many and Asante Hospice for their compassionate care in Don’s final weeks.
