Injury and illness have taken a toll on the Challengers (5-5, 2-1 Dist. 5) recently, forcing them to utilize 10 players against the Honkers. “It was an especially difficult game for them,” said Cascade Christian head coach Mick Power. “We came out and prepared mentally for it and the girls did good. A lot of them put a lot of extra effort into it and it showed in the style they played and how we kept them at bay.” Makenzie Hickman opened the scoring with a nice finish off a chipped through ball from Erika Worthington. In the 23rd minute, Worthington made the most of a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper and scored off a through ball from Rachel May. Lakeview’s lone goal came in the 32nd minute when Challengers goalie Audrey Quast attempted to clear the ball but had it deflect off Lakeview’s Faith Witham and into the goal. Quast also later came up with a key save to keep the Honkers (2-3-1, 1-3) at bay. Cascade Christian rebuilt its cushion with a goal by Emily Stephens in the 63rd minute on a direct kick from about 25 yards out.
