Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 28, 2005 Since You Asked Pre-built homes: no DMV licensing I recently went to the DMV office to register my manufactured home and was told those folks are not going to be handling manufactured homes licensing. They said the county will take care of those matters now. When did this all come about? Isn’t the county busy enough already? — Matthew J., Medford Well Matthew, about the only time you see manufactured houses on wheels these days is on the freeway or en route to a park. Maybe that’s what the state Legislature was thinking when it passed a law in 2003, changing responsibility from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services to the Building Codes Division of the Oregon Department of Consumer & Business Services. So when manufactured homes are sold or moved, buyers need to go to their county assessor’s office. Buyers of new homes will go through the dealer or a title and escrow company to complete the process. The Building Codes Divisions now licenses and regulates manufactured home dealers. Unless there are title or registration changes or the structure moves, current owners don’t need to worry about the change. A building codes spokesman said DMV offices have been directing manufactured housing owners to county assessor offices since April 18, and the transition will be complete Sunday.
