"We're seeing lowering snow levels through tomorrow which will cause delays on the Siskiyous into Northern California to Redding," said Oregon Department of Transportation District Manager John Vial. "We're at the mercy of the weather, and conditions can change quickly. If you can delay your trip until later, you may be better off." Transportation officials briefly closed southbound lanes of the freeway at about noon after a wreck, but traffic was flowing again shortly thereafter. Chains were required most of the day. ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming said the requirement delayed travelers one to two hours. No major crashes were reported, although minor wrecks have occurred on the summit throughout the day. Drivers are advised to fill their gas tanks and take other precautions such as carrying chains, food and water before heading over the pass.
