Harris Beach water safe again

Swimmers and waders were invited back into the water at Harris Beach after Friday’s lifting of a public-health advisory over high levels of fecal bacteria in the water. The voluntary advisory against water contact in the ocean and adjacent creeks and puddles went into effect Aug. 9 after routine water tests revealed the fecal bacteria, which can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes and other maladies, according to the Oregon Health Authority. Subsequent tests showed reduced levels of bacteria, so the advisory was lifted, according to the OHA.
