CENTRAL POINT Body found in canal identified as Medford transient Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 9, 2015 at 3:31 PM Posted Feb. 9, 2015 at 3:31 PM » Social News The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has identified a man found dead in an irrigation canal north of Central Point Sunday afternoon as 40-year-old Matthew Huff, a Medford-area transient. A property owner who lives off nearby Raven Road found Huff's body at 2:18 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff's department said. The body was in a canal on the other side of a field near the intersection of Table Rock and Bella Vista roads. The field is bordered by Table Rock Road to the east and West Gregory Road to the south. A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on Huff later this week. Police have said the death does not appear to be suspicious. “We just don’t know yet. We’re going to take our normal investigative procedure,” said sheriff's Sgt. Nathan Sickler. Huff's was the second body found over the weekend in Southern Oregon. On Saturday, Dorvin "Dwight" Russell, 65, was found dead and tangled in tree branches in the floodwaters of Grave Creek east of Sunny Valley. His body was found in the 1500 block of Placer Road, near where he lives, according to the Josephine County Sheriff's Department. He apparently had left home at about noon on Friday by crossing over the raging creek on a tree that had been felled across it. Russell was supposed to return home on Friday evening but never made it. His body was found several hundred yards downstream of the crossing, sheriff's officials said.
