EDUCATION New principals proposed for South Medford and Hedrick Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Jul. 7, 2015 at 3:18 PM Updated Jul 7, 2015 at 5:46 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Jul. 7, 2015 at 3:18 PM Updated Jul 7, 2015 at 5:46 PM » Social News Medford School District Superintendent Brian Shumate is recommending two new principals for two of the district's most prominent schools. Shumate will recommend  Damian Crowson and Beth Anderson to the top posts at South Medford High School and Hedrick Middle School, respectively, during a school board meeting that will start at noon Wednesday. At South Medford High School, Crowson would replace Kevin Campbell, who will become the district's director of secondary school achievement for the 2015-16 school year. District officials said Crowson's recommended starting salary would be $109,066. Crowson is currently principal of Lincoln Savage Middle School in Grants Pass and was previously principal of Lorna Byrne Middle School in the same district. He worked as the dean of students and athletic director at Hanby Middle School in the Central Point School District and as the activities coordinator and attendance supervisor at Crater High School. He also worked as assistant principal and athletic director at Illinois Valley High School in Cave Junction. As a teacher, Crowson taught language arts, social studies and math. He has served in several coaching roles, including working with basketball and softball teams at Grants Pass High School. According to a memorandum from Shumate, under Crowson's direction, Lincoln Savage Middle School was rated as a level 5 school, achieving the highest rating by any middle school in the state of Oregon. Anderson is currently an assistant principal at South Medford High School. If approved for the job at Hedrick, she would replace former Hedrick Principal Dan Smith, who will start his job as North Medford High's principal next fall. Her recommended starting salary would be $99,554, the district said.  Anderson has 30 years of experience in public education, including 23 years of teaching in Wisconsin, Illinois and Oregon. She came to the Medford School District in 2006, when she was hired as McLoughlin Middle School's dean of students. The following year, she was hired as an administrative intern at South Medford, then became assistant principal in 2008. She helped develop South Medford's small schools program and served as assistant principal at the Small School of Discovery. According to the memo to the school board, Shumate and two committees of board members, school and district staff, students and parents met with four candidates for each position in the past two weeks.
