Medford police on Saturday arrested Angel Jacob Mallory, 22, at a house in the 400 block of Western Avenue after receiving information he was there. Police surrounded the house and captured Mallory when he tried to flee out the back door. Prior to that, police believe, he had fled to California and was "laying low," according to the agency's Facebook page. "We had been seeking him ever since that crime, and we have not come across him, which is odd, because Angel Mallory is someone who we would deal with on a weekly basis," said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. Mallory remained in the Jackson County Jail Monday afternoon without bail on charges of first- and second-degree assault, first- and second-degree robbery, possession of methamphetamine, a parole violation and various failure-to-appear charges stemming from separate felony cases. Court records show Mallory was indicted on robbery and assault charges April 30. He was arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday. Police have been searching for Mallory since March 19, when police were dispatched to Providence Medford Medical Center at 1:17 p.m. after a 38-year-old man was stabbed. The stabbing allegedly stemmed from a fight over a cellphone Mallory had stolen, police said. The man said he and Mallory had been fighting in the 400 block of Kenwood Avenue when the stabbing occurred. Officers located Mallory in a Royal Avenue apartment building, but he escaped. Mallory has prior convictions stretching back to 2011, including methamphetamine possession and attempting to elude a police officer, court records show.
