Carvel Gordon Dillard, 58, was taken into custody in Hawthorne, Nev., after sheriff’s deputies there learned he was wanted on felony sex-abuse charges, Grants Pass Police Chief Joe Henner said in a news release. Investigators believe Dillard prostituted underage girls at the Wild River Inn, which he managed and co-owned until recently, according to police. An investigation into sex crimes and illegal drug activity at the Northeast Morgan Lane motel was launched last November, when police arrested several teenage girls on charges of methamphetamine possession and curfew violations, Henner said. Police went to the motel more than 400 times last year in response to a variety of complaints. Last month, officers swarmed the inn after a reported shooting in a room, Henner said. Dillard faces two counts of felony second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of prostitution, a misdemeanor. It was not known late Friday when Dillard would be returned to Oregon to face the charges. A Grants Pass police spokesman did not return a telephone call requesting more information about the arrest.
