Mr. Mikkelsen, 79, of Gold Hill, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) atProvidence Medford Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. He was born Sept. 12, 1921, in British Columbia, Canada, a son ofJames and Frances (Irwin) Mikkelsen. On May 10, 1946, in Nevada, he married Anna May Keyser, who died in 1998.They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from San Jose, Calif. Mr. Mikkelsen was a traffic manager for an electronic medicalsupply company prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Parker, Los Gatos, Calif.; abrother, Charles Anderson; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford. The memorial service for Douglas Lee Smith will be at 2 p.m.Sunday at Sams Valley Community Church in Central Point. The Rev. John Krohn will officiate. Mr. Smith, 35, of Eagle Point, was found May 26, 2001, in RogueRiver. He was born April 11, 1966, in Portland. He attended school in theRogue Valley, and graduated from Crater High School in 1984. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life. Mr. Smith was a building and forest service contractor for theForest Service. He enjoyed walking in the woods and spending time with hischildren. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah LeAnne Smith and AshleeDean Smith, both Central Point; a son, Joshua Ryan, Central Point; his parents, George and Patricia Smith,White City; a sister, Cathy Lyon, White City; and his fiancee, LaDonda Gilman, Eagle Point. Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford. Oliver P. Mackey Oliver P. Mackey, 73, of Ashland, died Monday (June 4, 2001) athis home. No service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley MedicalCenter Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504. He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Rich Mountain, Ark., a son of Argusand Alice (Beck) Mackey. Mr. Mackey was a machinist for many years. He was retired. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include one brother; and five sisters. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory,Ashland. Thelma M. Younghaus The graveside service for Thelma Maxine Younghaus will be at 11a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Louis Schneider of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Mrs. Younghaus, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) atHearthstone. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association,1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209. She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Chillicothe, Mo. On Dec. 7, 1942,in Dearborn, Mich., she married Robert V. Younghaus, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 fromCalifornia. Mrs. Younghaus was a secretary for Kaiser Industries, retiringafter 26 years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Robert,Jacksonville; and a brother, Karl Hargrave, Medford. She was preceded in death by a brother. Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at 550Business Park Drive, Medford. Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford. Dick J. Schimpf Dick J. Schimpf, 73, of Central Point, died Sunday (June 3, 2001)at his home. No service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 33 N.Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501, or the Disabled Veterans of America, c/o Ed Mazza, 8495 Crater Lake Highway,White City, OR 97503. He was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Mount Vernon, Mo., the son of Johnand Edith (Harwick) Schimpf. On March 24, 1968, he married Patricia King, who survives. Mr. Schimpf owned and operated his own trucking firm in the RogueValley for 26 years. He was a lifelong member of the Palmer, Alaska Elks Lodge, as wellas a member of the Medford Moose Lodge. Mr. Schimpf enjoyed all sports, especially car racing andfootball. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, hunting and golf. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John, Juneau,Alaska; a stepson, Steve, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Joy Walker, Yuma, Ariz., and Cora Hurst, Phoenix,Ariz.; several adopted grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford. Helen Doretheo Bowman The graveside service for Helen Doretheo Bowman will be at 2 p.m.Sunday at Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place, Wash. Dr. Darold Bigger will officiate. Interment will followthe service. Mrs. Bowman, 81, of Walla Walla, Wash., formerly of Prospect andMedford, died Sunday (June 3, 2001) at Garrison Creek Lodge in Walla Walla. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla CommunityHospice, c/o Mountain View Funeral Chapel, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362. She was born March 16, 1920, in Portland, the daughter of Theo andElin (Myrberg) Parsons. She graduated from Columbia (Adventist) Academy in Battle Ground, Wash., and receivedher RN degree from Walla Walla College. On Oct. 16, 1942, in Texas, she married Alvy L. Bowman, who died in2000. Mrs. Bowman was a registered nurse. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford,where she was actively involved in and enjoyed the prayer groups. Mrs. Bowman was an avid reader and storyteller and could recitepieces of literature from memory. She was known for her apple dumplings and blackberry cobbler, and enjoyedcrocheting baby sweaters and blankets for the new babies at her church. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Fellows, Spokane, Wash.,and Rita Wohlers, Collegedale, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Mountain View Funeral Chapel, Walla Walla, Wash. Arthur L. Bradshaw Arthur Lawrence Bradshaw, 83, of Trail, died Monday (June 4, 2001)at his home. A private service was held. Interment was in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical CenterFoundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504. He was born June 24, 1917, in Arnett, Okla. He moved to the RogueValley in 1948 from Southern California. Mr. Bradshaw worked for the Jackson County Highway Department forseveral years. He later worked for the railroad in White City. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Bradshaw enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include a daughter, Darline Mitchell, Erie, N.D.; twosisters, Pearl Carlisle, Medford, and Verda Ireland, Pomona, Calif.; three grandchildren; and ninegreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives; three sisters; and one granddaughter. Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Cary R.
