Kinney shines at golf tournament PORTLAND - Tai Kinney used a red-hot putter to win a United States Golf Association Publinks tournament at Eastmoreland Golf Course on Wednesday. The victory qualified Kinney, who shot a 1-under-par 72, for the national Publinks tournament, scheduled for June 18-22 at Sun River. Former Crater High standout Luneta Ah Sam shot a 76 to tie for second place and also move on to the national Publinks tournament. The top six golfers qualified. Kinney, a 2000 North Medford High School graduate, needed just 26 putts over 18 holes to shoot a one-under-par 72. She sank a 30-footer for par on the third hole and then drained a spectacular 50-footer for birdie on the fifth hole. "My putting was definitely on today," said Kinney, who played college golf at the University of Minnesota this spring but is transferring to San Jose State in the fall. "I made those two long ones but I also made several 8- to 12-footers."
