Curb ramp construction underway in Ashland By Allayana Darrow Updated: Mar 17, 2022 03:07 PM A A Construction began Tuesday on Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps on the corners of more than 30 intersections in Ashland, according to the city. Granite Construction crews were slated to start on Siskiyou Boulevard south of Southern Oregon University between Harmony Lane and Tolman Creek Road, with a plan to progress to several downtown locations and North Main Street. “Crews will begin working days, but are planning some night work in areas downtown to avoid affecting traffic,” according to a city news release. “For those corners under construction, temporary pedestrian access routes will be constructed to help people stay connected.” A website about 2022-23 projects in southwest Oregon provides updates about ADA-compliant curb ramp construction in Ashland, Grants Pass, Jacksonville, Medford, Phoenix and Talent, on state highways and key Rogue Valley intersections. The projects address the problem of “hundreds of intersection curb ramps” that do not comply with current ADA requirements, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
