Dec. 31, 1915 LOCAL AND PERSONAL The Roseburg Review contains this notice of a veteran newspaper man of Oregon: "Thomas Harlan, founder of the Medford Mail Tribune, was here this morning en route to Blue Lake, Humboldt county, California, to spend the winter with his son. He is traveling with horse and buggy. Mr. Harlan is a veteran of the Civil war. Although 81 years of age, he is still active." Harlan ran a Medford paper in about 1891-2, sold in 1892 to Felix G. Kerston, who made the paper the Southern Oregon Mail. A. S. Bilton bought from Kerston in 1893 and changed the name of the paper to Medford Mail. The Mail Tribune is a merger effected in 1909 of the Medford Mail, the Medford Tribune, the Democratic Times of Jacksonville and the Southern Oregonian. SOCIETY A joyful family reunion was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Bunch, 246 South Ivy Street, on Christmas day, members of the family meeting at that time who had not met for twenty-six years. Among those present were: O. B. Bunch of Fort Klamath, R. J. Bunch of San Francisco, Mrs. Eva Smith of Portland and Ray Bunch and family of Dunsmuir, Cal. The eldest son, residing in Portland, found it impossible to be present. Reminiscent stories were told of experiences since members of the family had met, fortunes were compared and a general flood of converse of family interest was enjoyed. The chef of the day, having been bountifully supplied by a good Santa Claus, provided a meal fit for the royal family. Altogether, it was a day of interesting communion among brothers and sisters and parents. A. Ernest Splitzen of Portland, is in the city today, having arrived yesterday to look into the dairy situation here. The question of feed cost has become a large factor among dairymen who have begun to feel the pinch of butter trust operations. In some parts of the state the dairymen are going out of the business.
