Becker, a sophomore right-hander, did not allow a run and registered a career-high 10 strikeouts in a 5-0 win at DePaul last Wednesday. In that game, she hit her team-best sixth home run of the season. Becker went on to post her second shutout against the Seminoles on Saturday. She fanned two and held FSU to four hits. On the week, Becker scattered eight hits in 14 innings. She now leads the team with a 10-4 record, a 2.49 ERA and 99 strikeouts. Smith named 3A state volleyball first-teamer Cascade Christian senior middle hitter Madigan Smith was named to the Class 3A state volleyball first team, which was recently released. Teammates Alyssa Brown (junior) and Paige Bruce (senior) landed spots on the third team. Smith, the Southern Cascade League player of the year, had 182 kills and a 49.4 kill percentage for the Challengers, who finished in third place at the state tournament. Cascade Christian went 22-6 overall and 8-0 in league play. Local wrestlers win crowns at Reno Worlds Central Point siblings Rayanne Bayne and Elijah Bayne earned titles at the World of Wrestling Reno World Championships April 10-12 at Reno Livestock Events Center. Elijah captured the last leg of the Trinity Award in the 8-and-under, 52-pound bracket. He went 6-0 with two technical falls, two pins, a major decision and a decision. Rayanne picked up the 10-and-under, 65-pound girls division crown. She had three decisions and a major decision. Both are students at Jewett Elementary in Central Point and wrestled for the Southern Oregon Outlaws.
